If you live in Ogunquit, if you vacation in our ‘beautiful place by the sea’, or even if you just happen to watch our town meetings online — then there’s a pretty good chance that Bob Winn (in some way, shape, or form) has had at least a small impact on your life.
And Mr. James Daly, the Wells-Ogunquit CSD Superintendent of Schools, was certainly thrilled to hear the surprise announcement at this week’s town meeting: The Ogunquit Residents Alliance will be honoring a home-town hero, Select Board Member Bob Winn, by establishing the Bob Winn Scholarship at Wells High School to award two graduating seniors $1000 each.
Additional Information
Bob Winn grew up in Ogunquit, attended the Ogunquit Village School, and graduated from Wells High School.
After college, he returned to his beloved state as a teacher and running coach. Bob inspired students with his love of running and led teams to several state championships. He himself is a national elite runner and was inducted into the Maine Running Hall of Fame. However, it’s never been about awards or accolades for him.
Students’ lives, their peace, their happiness, their success in and outside of school is what makes him tick. As importantly, his work ethic, character and service to his community have been paramount. As a Select Board member for nearly a decade, Bob has given his time and energy to Ogunquit. He has served with honor and
integrity.
