Well, folks, it’s official. The secret’s out! Our beloved town of Ogunquit, Maine has stolen the show and been crowned the #1 Vacation Destination in the World by Real Simple Magazine for 2024! That’s right, we beat out the likes of London, the Greek Isles, and even Tokyo to claim the top spot.
Now, we all know why Ogunquit deserves this recognition. We’ve been bragging (lovingly, of course) about our perfect blend of relaxation and adventure for years. But it’s nice to see it getting national attention, isn’t it?
What makes Ogunquit, Maine the #1 Vacation Destination in the World?
Real Simple highlights, from a very high level, an exceedingly small amount of what makes Ogunquit so special: peaceful charm, miles of scenic sandy beaches, sprawling rocky cliffs, and tree-lined streets. They also mentioned the potential for a fabulous New England road trip, with Ogunquit as the perfect home base to explore Boston or Providence.
But they still kept TONS OF REASONS as to why our tiny town of Ogunquit truly shines a hush-hush secret from their massive audience.
They never mentioned the serenity of Perkins Cove, the endless charm of our local shops and eateries, the coastal panoramas of the Marginal Way, the artistic legacy of the Ogunquit Art Colony (Ogunquit Art Association / Barn Gallery, Ogunquit Museum of American Art, the Perkins Cove Plein Air Painting Event), our quaint downtown, our nightlife options, the world-class theatre (Ogunquit Playhouse), and the top-shelf hospitality that keeps visitors coming back year after year.
Moving beyond the summer months (and Bonaire + our July 4th Fireworks), how about Ogunquit’s fall foliage getaways (Ogunquitfest), cozy winter escapes (Christmas by the Sea), and the crisp spring air?
This recognition by Real Simple is Real Sure to put Ogunquit on the map for even more travelers. But one thing’s for sure: for those of us who already call Ogunquit home, or a special place in our hearts, this just confirms what we’ve always known – there’s simply no place quite like our “beautiful place by the sea“.
