Kick off your flip flops as our beloved Seacoast is transformed into a Caribbean island paradise where love and laughter are the keys to growing older without growing up. Rachel takes best friend Tammy on a bachelorette getaway to Marley’s less than stellar Margaritaville resort, their arrival unexpectedly upending the world of bar headliner Tully and best friend Brick who are used to wining and dining the revolving door of single women arriving on the island each week. It’s a classic case of boy meets girl, girl hates boy, and boy does everything he can to win her over, while their two best friends fall for each other. And it’s all told through the music of Jimmy Buffett!

“Jimmy Buffett’s Escape to Margaritaville” has island vibes aplenty – and the Leary Pavilion (the new 25,000 square foot, steel structured, FULLY COVERED, open air performance venue at Ogunquit Playhouse) proved the PERFECT relaxed setting for this production! Comfortable. Plenty of elbow room. Fresh Ogunquit ocean air.

The BRAND NEW stage adaptation of “Jimmy Buffett’s Escape to Margaritaville” being performed at Ogunquit Playhouse lends a fresh, imaginative, and colorful narrative to so many of the Buffett songs we already know by heart; weaving the arcs of the muscial’s vibrant characters through the familiar lyrics in ways that reintroduce us to these beloved tunes with a fresh perspective.

Let’s be clear… This Escape To Margaritaville show (which includes a particularly memorable, call-and-response, audience-participation version of Buffett’s “Why Don’t We Get Drunk And Screw”) may not be high art — but it is ABSOLUTELY a perfect example of smile-inducing + soul-satisfying summer stock theatre during this particular year when all of us could use a few more boat drinks in our lives!

And as the pacing of the engaging storyline ramps up from a gentle + heartfelt acoustic version of Margaritaville towards the threat of a volcano beginning to blow — when that intermission break hits, you’ll definitely be hungry for more!

And trust us, the completely over-the-top “Cheeseburger in Paradise” showstopper in Act II offers more than enough stupendous sustenance to deserve your highest ratings!
