Next Phase of Ogunquit, Maine Beach Reopening

Approximately two weeks after opening Ogunquit, Maine’s beaches for “active use only” (walking, surfing, paddling, and fishing – but no sitting or sunbathing), the town Select Board has decided to restore the ability for beach-goers to enjoy the shoreline in an (almost) pre-pandemic fashion.

When Does This Next Phase of Reopening For Ogunquit, Maine Beaches Take Place? What are the Limitations?

The Town of Ogunquit Select Board voted during their June 2nd meeting to restore the ability for beach-goers to swim, sit, sun bathing, and etc. on the beach beginning Thursday, June 4.

The Ogunquit Select Board has chosen to require beach visitors to adhere to a minimum of 12 feet of social distancing while sitting on the beach.

ADDITIONALLY – Social distancing protocols per CDC and Maine CDC recommendations will require visitors to the reopening beaches to stay 6 feet apart at all times and wear a mask when social distancing is not possible — and those social distancing protocols will be enforced. Ogunquit police and town officials will be monitoring activity on the the beaches.

People are expected to practice physical distancing and wear masks,” states Town Manager Patricia Finnegan. “The intent is for people to wear masks if they are or might be in close contact with people. On the beach, people can distance themselves, but not necessarily in the parking lots, on the sidewalks, or on the ramps leading to the beach.
