2020 Ogunquit Maine Sandcastle Event

On Sunday, September 6th, 2020, the great Ogunquit Beach Sandcastle tradition continued at Main Beach, as a wonderfully free-form creativity event.

The Ogunquit Parks and Recreation Committee worked overtime to make certain that this long-running and cherished Labor Day Weekend beach event persevered, even through this recent COVID-19 scenario, in safe and socially distanced ways.

To make certain everyone was able to spread out and still join the Ogunquit shoreline fun, there was no formal judging of the sand-based creations this year.

The end result was a relaxed – and perfectly sunny – beach day on a coastline filled with creativity, laughter, and smiles for miles 🙂

More Information About The 2020 Ogunquit Beach Sandcastle Event

From families with young children, to adults working in tandem, and through to the solo efforts of teens and the young at heart; Ogunquit’s Main Beach was filled with the temporary artwork of sand sculptors armed with buckets, beach tools, and plenty of ingenuity!

What a joy, to see future family memories taking shape, just as surely as the sand was transformed into fortresses, animals, and other whimsical forms forged by the imagination (and hands) of participants.

The sunlight was glinting off breaking waves in the surf; children splashed in the tidal pools; and, even with the COVID-19 precautions being taken, it felt like a quintessential Ogunquit Beach day.

The Ogunquit Parks and Recreation team walked the beach to observe the building process, appreciate the efforts being put into the beach sand and seaweed creations, and take photos + video of the goings-on for those not fortunate enough to be in attendance for the event this year.

It was free. It was fun. And, most important, it was the perfect excuse to hop in the car and head for the beach! Any day at an Ogunquit beach is a good day!

Many thanks to the Ogunquit Parks and Recreation Committee for bringing summer joy into the lives of Ogunquit residents and visitors to our “beautiful place by the sea” this weekend!
