New England winters are long. That’s precisely why Ogunquit fills with day-trippers almost the second the springtime sun raises the outdoor temperature into the mid-to-high 40s.
After months below the freezing mark, anything even slightly above it feels glorious – and the Maine coastline is the perfect place to head for some outdoor time in the salty air!
But even we were surprised to see a single brave soul donning a bathing suit and heading into the water during the first weekend in April!
Granted, this particular sunbathing and splashing routine was more along the lines of Instagram posturing than authentic sun-worship – but it still reminded everyone enjoying eats and drinks from their oceanfront seats at Splash – Norseman Resorts on Ogunquit’s Main Beach that these crowds are only destined to grow larger each weekend on our journey towards the rapidly approaching summer.
If you love the storybook setting of Ogunquit, Maine during the summer – you should definitely give the town a visit during early spring, and experience the shoulder-season flavor of our ‘beautiful place by the sea’! Easy parking. Plenty of seats at the local restaurants. Bumping shoulders with the locals at our boutique shops. It’s almost an entirely different place, fertile with the potential for unforgettable moments.
PLUS there’s nothing like walking our Marginal Way cliff-walk, stopping to appreciate the sounds of waves crashing against our rugged coastline, and all at once realizing that you have one of the most amazing stretches of coveted scenery entirely to yourself.
