The Christmas season seems to bring out the creativity in all of us. From hand-made gifts, to beautiful works of tree-trimming artistry, and through to the Christmas cookies and other yummy treats – everyone seems to be creating something during the holidays!
But it’s especially fun when the creative project is of the gingerbread variety AND a has a pronounced LOCAL flavor! After all, who doesn’t like to see a gingerbread house version of a property with which they may already be familiar?
That’s why it’s fun for us to share this gingerbread house (designed and constructed from scratch by Charlene + Eric Taubert) inspired by a real world Ogunquit home!
The Thompson House (1750) is located directly across from the romantic Hartwell House Inn on Shore Road – just outside of Perkins Cove in Ogunquit, Maine! SEE A VIDEO OF THE GINGERBREAD HOUSE HERE – Or KEEP SCROLLING BELOW!
What went into the creation of the gingerbread version of the Thompson Farmhouse (1750), Ogunquit, Maine?
“7 hours of baking, 3 days of drying, 30 hours of detail work – cutting out and baking in glass for 25 windows, outlining windows with frosting, making candlesticks, creating rice cereal trees and snowman, and front yard assembly. 1,500 mini marshmallows, 100 hard candies, 6 mixing bowls of royal icing, a box of rice cereal, 2 bags of flour, 4 jars of molasses, a dozen egg whites, 4 lemons, and a jar of both cinnamon and ginger. Oh, and 5.2 million dishes. I love doing this stuff, and had so much fun. Happy Holidays!” — Charlene Taubert, New England Innkeeper
