If you’ve ever been to Ogunquit, Maine, then you probably already know Beachfire Bar and Grille for their large array of smoked BBQ (including their Smoked Whole Lobster) PLUS their excellent Maine / New England craft beer list!
But did you also know, ever since the COVID-19 virus brought most of the business in our Ogunquit-area towns to a standstill, that Kelly and Jared Laflin, owners of Beachfire Bar & Grille in Ogunquit, and their family + staff have been generously donating HUNDREDS of take-out meals to local hospitals, fire and police departments, walk in care centers, and school lunch programs during these uncertain times.
“Beachfire is so fortunate to be based here in the great state of Maine,” states Jared Laflin. “We are so lucky to have an amazing staff, a great local following, and a very supportive family to allow us to grow and prosper. We want to give back in this time of need to those in our community who need a little more support. That’s why we’re currently trying to spread the word and collect donations for our Beachfire Cares program.“
Initially the Laflins used their own money to purchase the food — along with generous donations from some of their vendors. But as the restaurant’s patrons have been discovering what Beachfire is doing, they are sending emails or calling to ask how they can help. Others are giving donations when they pick up their meals at the restaurant. (Beachfire + many other Ogunquit-area restaurants are offering curbside pick-up during the pandemic shutdown)
Now, Beachfire Bar & Grille have a new DONATE button on their website, which makes it even easier for people to help!
“Everything is a circle,” continues Laflin. “We know that we need to support our frontline providers, including hospital staff, police and fire departments, so they can make sure our communities are safe. At the same time, with our Beachfire Cares program, we’re able to keep our staff coming to work and pay our vendors in order to keep them in business. When everybody helps, everyone benefits. The end result is that we’re safer and happier because of it. Our goal is to provide these services long term. We know none of us can get by without a little help from each other.”
