Marginal Way Reopening

Over 2 months after the town of Ogunquit, Maine closed the Marginal Way scenic cliff walk to protect residents and visitors from the spread of COVID-19, they have now decided to reopen the landmark pathway subject to some limitations.

During a March 24th meeting, the Select Board for the Town of Ogunquit voted to close the Marginal Way, Ogunquit beaches, and the parking lots that service these areas until further notice, effective at noon, March 25th.

On May 18th, two of Ogunquit’s beaches were reopened with some limitations. Now there is also firm date in place for the Marginal Way reopening. Continue Reading Below…

When does Ogunquit’s Marginal Way open – and what are the limitations?

After input from Ogunquit’s COVID-19 Task Force, the Select Board recently voted to reopen the Marginal Way to two-way foot traffic on Monday, June 1st. Specific COVID-19 safety guidelines will be posted at the entry points of the Marginal Way. Masks will be required, as many sections of the path are much too narrow to allow the protocol of 6 feet of social distancing per CDC and Maine CDC recommendations.

In addition to mask-wearing, state mandated social distancing guidelines should also be adhered to wherever they reasonably can be on areas of the Marginal Way.

Currently, anyone visiting Ogunquit from out of state must comply with Gov. Janet Mills’ executive order that requires they self-quarantine for 14 days.

Ogunquit police and town officials will be monitoring activity on the the beaches.

Everyone is being asked to please adhere to the local guidelines for the health and safety of everyone – and so we can keep the Marginal Way open moving forward.
