Bintliff’s Ogunquit Restaurant Closes Doors After 17 Years Due To COVID-19

Bintliff's Restaurant - Ogunquit Maine

Earlier today, Bintliff’s Restaurant of Ogunquit, Maine made announcements on their website and Facebook page informing their friends, community members, and the general public that they have decided to close their popular landmark restaurant due to COVID-19 related challenges.

The novel coronavirus has been exacting a significant toll on small businesses in Ogunquit and the nearby towns. This decision comes just 5 days after the Ogunquit Playhouse cancelled their 2020 season, and only 2 days after On The Marsh Bistro (of nearby Kennebunk) announced that they were closing their doors permanently.

The wind has been knocked out of our sails due to COVID-19…”

“Dear Family, Friends and Guests of Bintliff’s Restaurant,

As of today we are letting you our valued family, friends and guests know that Pop and I have decided to close Bintliff’s Restaurant. This has not been an easy decision in any way. We have gone back and forth looking for the right way to approach these challenging times due to COVID-19.

On behalf of Pop and myself we are working to keep the lines of communication open. This is a very concerning time in our society and within our industry. We have investigated options on how we could keep Bintliffs going. However in conjunction with our accountant’s guidance, after looking at loans and grant options, we have arrived at this decision.

It goes without saying, but I will anyway, the team here at Bintliff’s is the best team Pop and I could have ever worked with past and present. It had always been my dream to own and operate my own restaurant. With our family by our side this was accomplished in 2004. Nearly a 17 year run, we have been knocked down and have risen back up a few times. This time not so much. My thought process is that the wind has been knocked out of our sails due to COVID 19.

A heartfelt “THANK YOU” to each and every one of you who has passed through our doors over the last 17 years. We have made many new friends, shared many laughs, created many memories and raised a glass or 2, maybe more of good cheer.

We fully understand that our decision comes at challenging times. However we find our decision to be in the best interest of our family, our health and the unforeseen future.

We simply ask for patience and understanding as we as a family and business work through these challenging times.

Pop and I will see you all soon.
Be safe, be healthy and be kind to one another

Thank you for your continued support through these times.
~ Pops and Norm Jr.
